Hillside Special School

Admission Arrangements

Except for the assessment nursery all pupils at Hillside are under the protection of a Statement of Educational Needs and pupil attendance is usually discussed and planned as part of the assessment procedure whilst the Statement is being prepared. The admissions authority is the Local Education Authority who can supply a copy of their admissions policy on request. The school welcomes informal visits from parents of pupils who already have a Statement and who are transferring schools but we cannot guarantee a place. You are asked to make an appointment for your visit through the school office.

School Uniform

Wearing of a school uniform encourages a sense of belonging and identity for the pupils. Pupils need to be provided with sweatshirts and t-shirts with our logo on them. These are available through the school office.
The uniform consists of:
Dark grey, black or navy trousers, skirt, pinafore dress
White shirt or blouse or blue Hillside t-shirt or polo neck
Royal blue jumper or Hillside sweatshirt

All shoes need to be low heeled and pupils need to provide outdoor coats appropriate to the season. Please also provide named sun cream in summer if you wish us to help your child put it on and hats or caps in hot weather. P.E kits need to include shorts (preferably blue or black) and T-shirts (preferably white) and to be provided in a named bag that is not a plastic carrier bag. Please also provide a swimming costume and towel for your child when swimming or hydrotherapy form part of their curriculum. All items of clothing should be marked with your child's name. No jewellery should be worn except for identity bracelets or necklaces, watches and stud earrings. Parents who receive Income Support or Family Credit may be able to apply to the Area Office for a cash grant to assist with the purchase of school uniform.
